Serengeti

The Serengeti’s vast, treeless grasslands are the classic image of wild Africa, made famous by dramatic photography and the Great Migration. This spectacle follows the long and short rains and can’t be precisely predicted, but timing a visit well creates lifetime memories, with experts available to advise. Even outside migration season, wildlife viewing on the open plains is excellent, and the Serengeti pairs well with Ngorongoro Crater, Lake Manyara, and beach time in Zanzibar for a superb family safari-and-beach holiday.

Accommodation ranges from ultra-luxury Singita lodges like Sasakwa and Sabora to &Beyond’s Grumeti Serengeti Tented Camp on the migration route and intimate Klein’s Camp. Mobile “under canvas” camps place you deep in the wilderness. Central Serengeti, including the renowned Seronera Valley, features rolling savannah, rocky granite outcrops, acacia woodlands, and rivers that support diverse wildlife—giraffe, elephant, buffalo, big cats, and more. Popular activities include game drives, cultural visits, horse-riding safaris, and hot-air ballooning over the plains.
