Gorilla Trekking & Kenya Safari

Arrival in Kigali, Rwanda. Your driver will meet you on arrival and transfer you to your hotel in the city. Check in and spend the afternoon at leisure. Overnight Kigali Serena Hotel – including breakfast

This morning you will enjoy breakfast and check out. Embark on a tour of the city which includes a visit to the Genocide Memorial. Enjoy lunch at one of the local restaurants before setting off for the Volcanoes National Park. The drive time is about 2.5 hours on good roads. Arrive at the lodge and check in. Relax in the beautiful gardens ahead of dinner. Overnight Sambora Kinigi.

Gorilla trekking day. Sambora Kingigi is a short drive from the park headquarters. Set off with your gorilla trekking guides – porters are available for hire to carry your backpacks. This is a great job creation initiative for the locals. It can take anywhere from 1-4 hours to reach the gorilla group. Spend 1 hour observing them grooming each other, eating and playing before heading back down the mountain. The lodge will provide a picnic lunch for you to enjoy along the way. Return to Sambora Kinigi and spend the afternoon at leisure.

 The Gorilla Guardians cultural village gives an insight into the everyday lives of the village communities in ancient Rwanda. Visitors are welcomed by a lively drumming performance with singing and dancing. Visitors can participate in the traditional dances, or watch from the sidelines. Meet the traditional healers and take a community walk where you’ll find out more about the Batwa pottery-making experience. Besides the pottery, you can join the local people when they go to their agricultural fields to work and learn about their work in planting, weeding, and harvesting.

Check out and transfer by road back to Kigali. Connect with your flight to Nairobi. Your driver will meet you and transfer you to the hotel. Check in and spend the evening at leisure. Overnight Karen Blixen Cottages – including breakfast

Spend the day touring with your local guide. Visit the Daphne Sheldrick elephant orphanage where you can talk to the handlers and find out about the elephants’ daily routine. Stop in at the Giraffe Centre and then proceed to a local restaurant for lunch. You may also want to do some shopping this afternoon – we love Kazuri Beads which is a female-led jewellery initiative.

Enjoy breakfast and check out. Your driver will transfer you to Wilson Airport where you’ll board your flight to Lewa. Your ranger will meet you on arrival and transfer you to the lodge. Settle in to your room ahead of lunch which is followed by the afternoon activity. Return to the lodge for a sumptuous dinner. Overnight Lewa Safari Camp – Fully Inclusive of all meals, selected drinks and scheduled lodge activities

Enjoy morning and afternoon drives with your experienced guide. Within the protected area the wildlife is abundant and game viewing is outstanding. With one of the biggest rhino populations in Kenya, the Big 5, the rare Grevy’s zebra and plentiful sightings of lion, cheetah and all the plains game set against the magnificent backdrop of snow-capped Mt. Kenya, a game drive in Lewa is one of the most spectacular in Kenya.

For the more adventurous, exploring the Conservancy’s diversity on foot is also an option. You’ll be accompanied by trained Samburu rangers with a sweeping knowledge of the local flora and fauna, tracks, micro-ecosystems, history and culture of the area, as well as a hands-on knowledge of rhino conservation. Cultural visits are also offered if you’d like to engage with the local community.

Enjoy breakfast and check out. Transfer to the airstrip for your flight to the Masaai Mara. On arrival you will be met by a camp ranger who will  transfer you to the lodge. Settle in. Later, grab your cameras as you head out on the afternoon game drive.  Your driver will showcase the animals and birds found here while you enjoy a refreshing drink. On safari. Enjoy game drives both on the conservancy and in the Masaai Mara Game Reserve. Game drives here are unforgettable due to the abundance of wildlife and the spectacular landscapes. With gently rolling hills and wide open plains, this is the quintessential African safari experience. Expect to see large numbers of animals year round, with herds of elephant, buffalo and other plains game. It is also common to see predator interaction. The Wildebeest Migration passes through the Mara from July to November each year when over two million wildebeest, zebra and gazelle embark on a cyclical movement through the Mara, driven by rainfall and the subsequent availability of grazing.

On safari. Enjoy morning and afternoon game drives when the animals are most active. Night drives are also offered to give you a glimpse into the nocturnal animals that call this home.

Enjoy breakfast this morning and check out. Take a flight back to Nairobi and enjoy lunch at one of the local restaurants. From here you’ll transfer to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport where you’ll connect with your evening flight back home. BON VOYAGE!
